Assessment of Body composition becomes complicated in people who are without limbs usually due to amputation or congenital defects. Body weight assessment is useful in clinical setting. However, Body Composition assessment based on body weight alone is incorrect for persons with amputation.
Clinical Conditions
Clinicians require good understanding of a patient, especial those with bilateral, transhumoral, transfemora, transradial and transtibial amputees. Correct assessment of amputee is vital and should be undertaken at the start of any treatment in order to guide the course of treatment.
Ideally in preoperative clinical patients, Pre and Post assessment should be undertaken in order to monitor changes. For better patient outcome a good knowledge and understanding of results are essential.
